Alert from BSSComputingGeneral: Server maintenance on Friday 6/13/2008

UPDATE at 10:30am on Friday 6/13/2008: SERVER MIGRATION HAS BEEN COMPLETED. All Department and User data should now be available on the new server BSSCOLLEGE. Thank you for your patience during the maintenance window.

We have scheduled server maintenance for Friday morning 6/13/2008. We will be moving all server shares from BSSMAIN to the new server BSSCOLLEGE. We will strive to shorten the maintenance window but many server shares will NOT be available from 8pm on Thursday until 10am on Friday morning so please plan accordingly. Starting Friday all College Department and private user shares will only be available on the new server BSSCOLLEGE. Those of you with mapped network drives (I: and J: drives) will simply need to reboot your computer and the new server shares should be available under My Computer. Those of you who use shortcuts to the server and those using Mac OSX will need to alter your network paths to reflect the move to the new server.

Alert from BSSComputingGeneral: HSS Electrical Outage Sunday 4/27/2008

There will be an HSS building wide electrical outage on Sunday 4/27/2008 from 9am until 3pm. During this time all BSS network and server resources will be unavailable. BSS Computing strongly recommends that you shutdown and turn off your computer and peripherals prior to this outage. If you have any questions, please contact the BSS Helpdesk.

Alert from BSSHelpDesk: SFSU email servers no longer support relaying for non-sfsu.edu accounts

Starting Monday 4/7/2008 the SFSU email servers will no longer support email relaying for non-sfsu.edu accounts. This means that if you use multiple non-sfsu.edu accounts in your email client, you will no longer be able to send from those accounts through the SFSU SMTP servers. You will need to define the default SMTP server for each account to correspond with that domain, or send all outgoing email through a SMTP server that supports relaying. Please contact the BSS Helpdesk if you have any questions.

Official SFSU Division of Information Technology update (edited for brevity):

The Division of Information Technology will now implement email outbound rules on centrally managed email servers to stop non-sfsu.edu email relays from our gateways. This means that email messages with a sender or reply-to not ending in sfsu.edu will not be delivered. This change is in part to address the problem which AT&T (sbcglobal.net and pacbell.net) and other providers identified that they were receiving large volume of spam from sfsu.edu. The change will be in effect on Monday, April 7 at 8AM.
