BSS Virtual Private Network (VPN) Setup Instructions

  1. Download the Windows Cisco VPN client here: http://www.sfsu.edu/~helpdesk/CiscoVPN4Win/#Installation
    Download the Mac OSX Cisco VPN client here: http://www.sfsu.edu/~helpdesk/cisco_vpn_osx/#Installation
  2. Dowload the client configuration file here: HSS-VPN.zip
  3. Install the Cisco VPN client and accept all the defaults. Reboot your computer.
  4. After the computer reboots, on your desktop Double Click the HSS-VPN.zip file to extract its contents (the file HSS-VPN.pcf) to your desktop. You will need this file to complete the process.
  5. In the start menu launch the Cisco Systems VPN Client.
  6. Click Import and locate the HSS-VPN.pcf file that you extracted to your desktop.

  8. Make sure that the connection entry HSS-VPN is highlighted in the VPN Client menu. Then click Connect.

 8.  You will be asked for your username and password. This is your SFSU email username and password. In the username field be sure to leave off the @sfsu.edu. Click OK.

9.  You are now connected and finished setting up the VPN. Your network connection will now behave as if you were directly connected inside the HSS building at SFSU. All data will be encrypted over the public Internet

 10.  Once you are authenticated you can connect to BSS and SFSU network resource as if you were on campus. Moreover, all network traffic between your computer and the campus will be encrypted. For example, if you want to connect to the your personal share (I:\ drive) for example, you would goto Start Menu-->Run-->\\130.212.20.3\username$
